LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The status of the old post office that has sat along South Tennessee Avenue since 1937 appears to have stabilized since yesterday’s special called City of La Follette Council meeting. It was recently deemed as surplus by the council.

City Attorney Reid Troutman told the council an offer had been made by the LaFollette Housing Authority to purchase the old post office for $200,000. The council voted unanimously to accept the offer.

LHA Director John Snodderly calls it a win-win for all parties concerned. “Our board took the position that since we already lease the parking lot of the old post office, we didn’t want to see the building to go to someone else. This will also allow us to work with Postmark La Follette,” said Snodderly.

“Postmark La Follette does some really good things for our community, especially the children. My children and children who are LHA tenants have taken part in programs there.” said Snodderly. He expressed that he is eager to sit down and talk with the folks of Postmark about continuing there calling Postmark “a good thing.”

Snodderly said there is no intention of knocking down the building but only to maintain it and make modifications in the years to come. “The building will remain intact,” said Snodderly.

LHA owns Russell Tower which sits next to the old post office. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/22/2022-9AM)
